The Kuala Lumpur Photography Festival, or KLPF for short, is as close as Photokina we get over here in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It happened on 23rd – 25th August 2019 and I went on the first day itself.
Bearing the name “Photography Festival” however, I noticed the lack of major players in the industry i.e. Canon, Nikon, Olympus, Panasonic, etc. Niche brands like Voigtlander was absent (I remember having fun with a Voigtlander 25mm f0.95 for Micro Four Thirds at the booth on 2017). Laowa is still present and I got to play with the 4mm circular fisheye for Micro Four Thirds.
I am also surprised to see Broncolor. They had taken over the distributorship and set up an office here in Malaysia. I also played with a Sachtler tripod which I admired so much from watching YouTube videos. Digicolor has iFootage sliders as well as Z Cam and FeelWorld monitors in their portfolio.
Lastly, there are a lot of travel related talks, tourism board booths, and travel photo exhibitions that I truly enjoyed.
However, KLPF being one of the major photography industry exhibition I would really love to see all major industry players in the same hall.
Till next time, see you again in 2020.
