We know that the person behind the camera matters in photography, but how well do you know the person behind the camera?
If someone shows us a photograph of a model or a subject matter, we could identify them almost instantly. Take the Afghan girl for example, an iconic photograph that made it to the cover of National Geographic in 1985 yet many of the general population would not know the name “Steve McCurry“.
I admire photographer Tim Mantoani for taking initiative to put a face on these photographs. His book “Behind Photographs: Archiving Photographic Legends” features photographers with their most iconic or favorite photographs. In total he has shot 150 photographers with a gigantic 20×24 Polaroid camera.
